Governor Names Trey Anastasio as Incoming Phish & Wildlife Commissioner

MONTPELIER – Governor Phil Scott announced today that he will appoint musician Trey Anastasio to replace retiring Phish and Wildlife Commissioner Nectar Rorris when Rorris leaves his post in September.
Rorris, who has been the head of Phish & Wildlife for decades, is retiring and has not announced future plans.

Anastasio has been working to support Phish-related issues since 1983, and wildlife-related issues for almost as long, specifically in the areas of forest ghosts and oysters. He was nominated for a Tony award in 2013, though not for his conservation work.

“Trey Anastasio’s devotion to Vermont’s tradition of Phish and ecology will serve the Department well,” Scott said. “His experience working with mules, llamas, and wolfmen, as well as his background in lawns and caverns, uniquely qualify him for his new role.”

Anastasio says he is excited to begin work next month and will work hard to improve and protect all of Vermont’s Phish and wildlife. Some of his first projects will include monitoring the hunting seasons for bear and Canadian geese, protecting the climbing fern, jamming for days, and overseeing the sale of Nectar’s restaurant in Burlington.
