In most instances when an officer pulls over a vehicle travelling in excess of the posted limit, that officer uses his or her discretion when offered an excuse and can choose to issue a ticket, or simply a warning. This list provides some clarity to officers unsure as to which songs officially make it okay to drive a little faster.

“We do advise everyone to obey the posted speed limits,” said Colonel Matthew Birmingham, director of the VT State Police, “but at the same time we also recognize that there are instances when staying under those limits is just impossible. For instance, nobody is going to drive 55 when ‘Born to Be Wild’ comes on the radio, and it would be unreasonable for us to expect that.”

The full list of songs is as follows:

Act a Fool, by Ludacris

Are You Gonna Be My Girl, by Jet

Bad Reputation, by Joan Jett

Born to Be Wild, by Steppenwolf

Born to Run, by Bruce Springsteen

Can’t Stop the Feeling, by Justin Timberlake*

Danger Zone, by Kenny Loggins

Don’t Stop Me Now, by Queen

Fun Zone, by “Weird Al” Yankovic

Go With the Flow, by Queens of the Stone Age*

Immigrant Song, by Led Zeppelin

Indestructible, by Robyn*

Life is a Highway, by Tom Cochrane

Memories, by David Guetta ft.
