Vermonters Claim 2024 Eclipse Will Be Much Better Than This One

RANDOLPH – Perhaps a little green with envy in the Green Mountain state, Vermonters spent the day of the Great American Eclipse of 2017 looking forward to April 8, 2024 when the next total solar eclipse to be seen in the US will pass through New England. Local libraries and science centers handed out rose-colored eclipse glasses and explained to attendees that yesterday’s event was “just practice.”

Fred Green of Randolph noted that “Yeah, today’s eclipse was OK, but it lasted only about two minutes. I hear that the 2024 eclipse in Vermont will last almost 4 minutes, so that one is really worth waiting for. These suckers in the west and south went to all that trouble for only 120 seconds or so.”

When informed that the typical weather for April 8 is overcast with showers, Mr. Green replied, “This is New England. You don’t like the weather, just wait five minutes.” When further informed that totality will not occur in Randolph but rather in Burlington and the rest of Chittenden County, Mr. Green seemed crestfallen. “Well, at least that’s close to Vermont.”
