COLCHESTER – Top local radio station Star 92.9 will officially switch its format to all Ramadan music starting at noon today and and will continue this theme throughout the month-long celebration. The station usually plays popular music from the past three decades, but occasionally switches over to alternative formats to commemorate religious holidays.
The station’s commitment to religious music was last seen at Easter, when they replaced more secular tunes like “Havana” with adjusted versions such as “Hosanna.” Deejays say that listeners can expect a similar experience over the coming month.
The normal pop music selections can still be streamed on their app or through their website, but listeners tuning in on the radio, expecting to hear “Wait” by Maroon 5 will instead hear “Sehri Ka Waqt” off of Michael Buble’s recent Easter album “Ramadan-a-ding-dong.” Pentatonix has just released an a cappella album called “Adhan” which is expected to receive heavy airplay. Also in rotation will be “Mahe Ramzan Alveda” by Justin Bieber, and Mariah Carey’s remixed “All I Want For Ramadan is You.”
